AUGUSTA, Ga. - The #7 ranked Morehouse College basketball team had its nine game winning streak snapped as they fell on the road to Benedict College, 89-83, on Monday evening in Columbia, S.C.
Both teams traded jabs for the first ten minutes of the game tied at 20-20 with 9:47 remaining in the half. Benedict would go on a 20-11 run in the next eight minutes and went into the locker rooms with a 45-38 lead on the Maroon Tigers.
The Tigers held the lead for most of the second-half and were able to hold on in the final minute for the 89-83 victory.
Turning Point
After tying the game at 80-80 on a layup by
James Walker with 1:21 remaining in the game, Romello Jones hit a three-pointer giving Benedict the lead for good in the last minute of the game.

Senior forward
James Walker (Stone Mountain, GA) had a team-high 21 points and eight rebounds while junior forward
Tremell Gooden had 17 points. Senior forward
Omar Alston was one rebound shy of a double-double as he finished with 11 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
Romello Jones came off the bench to score a game-high 26 points for Benedict while hitting 4-of-6 three point attempts.
