Maroon Tigers Lose to Bears For Second Time This Season

January 8, 2011 – ATLANTA – In a closely played game in which the largest lead was seven points, the Maroon Tigers lost 60-56, to the Miles College Golden Bears.
 
It was the second time this season that Morehouse has lost to Miles. The first was a 78-64 defeat in Birmingham, on December 4.
 
Morehouse led by as many as six points, in the first half, and enjoyed a 26-25 lead at the break. But the Bears outscored the Maroon Tigers 35-30, in the second half.
 
Neither team shot the ball well from the field or the free-throw line. Morehouse shot 39 percent from the field, compared to 44 percent for Miles. From the charity stripe, Morehouse led 67 percent to 47 percent.
 
#Jelani Figures#, with 16 points, and #Roderick Williams#, with 15 points, led Morehouse in scoring, but the rest of the team combined for only 35 points.  
 
Williams, the team leading scorer, hit 6-of-9 shots from the field and added six rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals.  
 
Figures, last year's scoring leader, hit 6-of-14 shots and added three rebounds and two steals.
 
#Jonathan Tassin# led the Tigers in rebounding, with seven, to go with four points and a team-high three assists.
 
Jeremy Cody set the tone for the Golden Bears, who improved to 4-5 (2-5 SIAC). Cody scored 13 points and had a game-high 10 rebounds. Two other Bears scored in double figures.
 
Morehouse will return to the home hardwood, Monday, at 7:30 p.m., against the Lemoyne Owen Magicians.
