Box Score January 15, 2018 – ALBANY, GA – A 75-70 win over the Albany State Golden Rams gave the Maroon Tigers a 15th straight victory and broke the Morehouse record for consecutive wins.
The previous record of 14 straight wins was set by the 2002-03 Morehouse team – the last to win an SIAC championship – and matched in the 2012-13 season.
Already ranked as the #20 team in the nation, by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the Maroon Tigers have moved up from #3 to #2 in the South Region poll of D2SIDA. The sports information directors association has Morehouse as the #18 team in its national poll.
The win ties Claflin (17-1) at 10-0 in the conference and sets up the showdown between the top two teams in the SIAC East Division. That game will be played Saturday, at 3 p.m., at Morehouse's Forbes Arena.
Tyrius Walker and Jordan Wallace each poured in 19 points, to lead all scorers, in the game in which Morehouse led most of the way. Walker and Wallace are two of four Maroon Tigers averaging double digits in scoring.
Walker hit 5 of 13 shots from the field, including 3 triples, and 6 of 8 free throws. The team scoring leader hauled in four rebounds, handed out three assists and collected three steals.
Wallace hit 6 of 8 from the field, including three treys, and sank 4 of 6 free throws.
James Walker had another big game, with 10 points and five rebounds. Most of Walker's points came from the charity stripe, where he sank 7 of 10.
Tony Evans and Kairo Whitfield each had seven points. Evans added four rebounds and three steals.
Omar Alston posted four points and a team-high nine rebounds. Martravious Little contributed four points, three rebounds and three steals.
Jared Harrington led the Golden Rams, with 18 points and two rebounds. Tylen Walker chipped in 15 points, three assists and two rebounds. Rahdin Hughes just missed a double-double, with 12 points and nine rebounds. Albany State fell to 1-16; 1-8.
