Maroon Tigers Hold On To Beat Central State, 69-65

ATLANTA, Ga. - Morehouse College basketball team was able to hold on and beat Central State University 69-65 Thursday night in Forbes Arena.

The Maroon Tigers improve to 6-5, 3-1 SIAC, while the Marauders fall to 6-4, 3-2 SIAC on the season.

The first half of the game was very much a seesaw battle as neither team was able to keep the lead for very long. Morehouse was able to snag 20 first half rebounds, six of them secured by senior guard Tremell Gooden (Atlanta, GA). Morehouse guard Robert Andrews (Detroit, MI) led the offense in the first stanza with seven points and four boards.

MHC ended the first half tied with CSU 30-30. Both teams seemed to be evenly matched with neither club outperforming each other by too much. The White and Maroon and Central dished out eight assists each. However, the Marauders tallied up 11 turnovers for the half, eight of them caused by Morehouse steals.

MHC outscored CSU 39-35 for the second half, resulting in Morehouse winning 69-65. The Maroon Tigers were defensive juggernauts. Morehouse's defense was airtight causing 19 turnovers and accumulate 11 steals while blocking five shots.
 
Turning Point
At 17:35 in the second half, senior guard Robert Andrews (Detroit, MI) hit a three giving the Maroon TIger's the lead at 36-35, a lead that they would hold for the remainder of the contest.

Individual Leaders
Andrews led the Morehouse with 13 points, going 5-of-12 from the field and pulling down eight boards. Guard Devonte Butler (Grayson, GA) was the only other Maroon Tiger in double-figures with 10 points off the bench.

Central State guard Darweshi Hunter led the Marauder scoring a game-high 20 points. Forward Dreon Lewis chipped in with 14 points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
